Dr. Topol Performs A Real-time, Wireless Ultrasound On His Heart During A Presentation … Using A Wand And His iPhone.
This post is pure Medical News. I saw this NBC segment for the first time last night, and the first thing I thought was, “I’ve got to share this with the readers of “Tips …”. This is utterly amazing, and it just may be the harbinger of a paradigm shift in how medical care is delivered in the very near future.
Dr. Eric Topol is an American cardiologist, geneticist, and researcher. He spent many years at the Cleveland Clinic where he was Chairman of the Cardiovascular Medicine Department and founded the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. Dr. Topol was one of the first … and most vocal … of the prominent physicians to question the use of the drug Vioxx.
His personal denunciation of Vioxx was a principal force leading to the well-known investigations and eventual withdrawal of the drug from the market. His condemnation of the use of the deadly drug was so “vocal”, and set off such a furor, that it spilled over into another controversy involving Dr. Topol and the Cleveland Clinic itself when he criticized the clinic for its close ties to “Big Pharma”. All this resulted in his departure when the Cleveland Clinic abolished the Doctor’s academic position.
Dr. Topol is currently Director of the Scripps Translational Science Institute at La Jolla, California, and is the chief Academic Officer for Scripps Health. He’s also a professor of Translational Genomics at The Scripps Research Institute, and the Gary and Mary West Chair of Innovative Medicine. He’s also co-founder and Co-Chairman of the Board of the West Wireless Health Institute. He’s the Editor in Chief of “Medscape” and “TheHeart.org”.
Well, you’re in for a treat today. What we have below is a segment from the NBC’s “Rock Center” featuring Dr. Topol and the amazing “Wireless Medicine” he’s practicing now … and is predicting will revolutionize the way medicine is practiced in the near future. Now, by “near future”, I’m not talking about 50 years from now. This is the way he’s practicing NOW, and it could virtually revolutionize the medical industry … for the better and completely … within the next 5 or 10 years. This will be the future for most of us, and the way we interact with our physicians in the very near days to come.
You’re not going to believe this! It’s about 8 minutes long, and it will blow your mind. Welcome to the future!
