Weight Loss: The Skinny On The Dash Diet.
Last month we posted that the Dash Diet was ranked the best diet by U.S News and World Report. I was somewhat surprised about that choice as being the top diet. I really haven’t heard too much about it before. So I started doing some research to give you more information.
The DASH diet stands for the “Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension” and was created by the National Institutes of Health’s “National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute”. The best place for information is to go directly to the source. On their website are several PDFS that breakdown the diet. There is the LONG VERSION and the SHORT VERSION that discuss the diet.

The DASH eating plan also is lower in sodium (salt) than the typical American diet. The DASH research showed that an eating plan containing 2,300 milligrams (mg) of sodium per day lowered blood pressure. An eating plan containing only 1,500 mg of sodium per day even further lowered blood pressure.
Variety Is The Spice Of Life!
Since the origin of the Dash Diet by NHLBI several books have been written. They include meal plans and recipes. One of the hardest things about diets can be the the lack of variety of foods. If you get bored with your meals you are less inclined to stick with your diet. Take a look and see if they interest you.
